May I email my child directly? Although the children do not have access to the Internet, our in-country team does. We offer a Writing Buddy program for $15 per quarter in which our team will coordinate communicating your email to your child as well as helping them to respond. Please note that turn around time will vary based upon team member availability and your child’s English skill level.

How do I go about emailing my child? Send an email to mychild@shapingdestiny.org . Include your name, your email address and your child’s name. The children don't have access to computers. Only our staff  and we would forward your email to your child and assist him/her in writing back to you.                                                   

What happens if my child leaves the orphanage or is moved? We do our best to keep track of the children but we must admit that this does happen occasionally. Sometimes a relative will return and remove the child from the orphanage or the child will leave on their own. If this should happen, we will do our best to accommodate your wishes. We hope that you will want to sponsor another child that is waiting.

May I visit my child? Sure! They would love it and we would love for you to experience the conditions your child is living in first hand. We do require that all sponsors and/or writing buddies that wish to travel to visit their children first inform us so that we can contact the orphanage or caretaker of the child and arrange the visit before your arrival. This protects the integrity of our program, minimizing the possibility of those unaffiliated with Shaping Destiny to show up unannounced at an orphanage claiming to be a part of our organization or programs.
