suggest to volunteers.

What are the accommodations provided (host family
or in the organization? Are meals
included, how many?
ACCOMMODATION IS AT CENTER WITH THE ORPHANS OR IN A
LOCAL HOTEL--THE VOLUNTEER CHOOSES. MEALS ARE
AVAILABLE.
Is there here any documentation required from
volunteers (i.e. school letter)?
NO. HOWEVER, ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST COMPLETE OUR ONLINE
APPLICATIONS.
What is the method and cost of daily
commute for volunteers (i.e. taxis, bus)
BOTH TAXIS AND BUS WILL BE AVAILABLE.
Do teaching volunteers need to bring any teaching
materials?
NO. TEACHING VOLUNTEERS ONLY HAVE TO SUBMIT
THEIR RESUMEES TO US IN ADVANCE FOR APPROVAL.
TEACHERS DON'T HAVE TO BE PROFESSIONAL TEACHERS.
What donations are needed or recommended to
bring.
$120 APPLICATION FEE REQUIRED FOR EACH VOLUNTEER.
$200 DONATION IS RECOMMENDED TO HELP SUPPORT THE
ORPHANAGE.
Is there a dress requirement, certain clothing to
be worn?
NO. PLEASE READ PART TWO OF APPLICATION THOROUGHLY.
WE ENCOURAGE VOLUNTEERS TO BE MODERATELY DRESSED,
WEARING CLOTHES THAT COVER MOST OF THEIR BODY
SURFACE. THIS WILL BE HELPFUL BECAUSE MOSQUITOES AND
MALARIA ARE NOT UNCOMMON IN THIS PART OF AFRICA.
Will there be a language problem? Is English-only
OK, even in rural areas?
THIS PART OF CAMEROON SPEAKS ENGLISH. HOWEVER, 75%
OF THE COUNTRY IS FRENCH SPEAKING AND THERE WILL BE
AN INTERPRETER FOR THE PART OF THE TRAVEL DONE IN
THE FRENCH SPEAKING PART OF THE COUNTRY.
Will host family have anyone who speaks English?
YES, ALL EMPLOYEES AT THE CENTER SPEAK ENGLISH
What is the daily host family / accommodations
fee rate or does the organization
take care of the accommodation?
$1000 FOR TWO WEEKS COVERS ALL COSTS INCLUDING
AIRPORT PICKUP AND DROP OFF, FOOD, ROOM. THAT IS
ABOUT $70 PER DAY (FOOD, TRANSPORTATION,
BOARDING INCLUDED)
Where is the nearest Internet access for
volunteers?
45 MINUTES AWAY.
Can volunteers bring mobile phone from home? How
can they make phone calls home?
EACH VOLUNTEER WILL BE ABLE TO GET A CELL PHONE TO
USE DURING THEIR STAY FOR A COST OF $50 (DETAILS ON
THAT UPON REQUEST). THEY CAN BRING THEIR OWN PHONES
BUT THEY WILL HAVE TO WORK OUT THE DETAILS WITH
THEIR PHONE COMPANIES PRIOR TO LEAVING.
Any extra costs the volunteer must pay?
NO EXTRA COSTS
What medical facilities are nearby for volunteers?
THERE IS A LOCAL HOSPITAL 5 MINUTES AWAY WITH 3
LOCAL PHYSICIANS. ON MANY OCCASIONS, SOME OF OUR
VOLUNTEERS WOULD BE U.S. BASED PHYSICIANS
VOLUNTEERING THERE TO HELP ORPHANS.
Can volunteers buy prescription medicines? Like
for diabetes?
YES. BUT WE ENCOURAGE ALL PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC
MEDICAL CONDITIONS TO PLAN WITH THEIR DOCTORS BEFORE
TRAVEL.
Are there available weekend sightseeing trips?
YES, TWO SITE SEEING TRIPS INCLUDED IN THE TWO WEEK
PACKAGE FOR VOLUNTEERS TO SEE LOCAL ATTRACTIONS.
SITE SEEING OCCURS DURING THE WEEKENDS ONLY.
Any one in your Organization speaks English?
ALL EMPLOYEES SPEAK ENGLISH
Are there certain projects better for short-term
volunteers who want to help even though they have
limited time to do so?
YES. VOLUNTEERS WHO WANT TO VOLUNTEER LESS THAN
TWO WEEKS SHOULD CONTACT US FOR DETAILS.
Do you have other volunteers on-site during the
year, or would volunteers be "alone".
WE WILL BE HAVING OTHER VOLUNTEERS, BOTH LOCAL AND
FOREIGN
Safety is always a common concern, especially for
young woman who are our
main travelers. Is there any precautions or
information you can provide on this
subject?
FROM EXPERIENCE, CAMEROON IS A VERY PEACEFUL
COUNTRY. WE HOWEVER, TAKE PRECAUTIONS TO ENSURE THE
SAFETY OF VOLUNTEERS THAT COME TO THE CENTER. |
