I am proof that God chooses the weakest, and least of people to make a difference in this world.  I have been a Christian since March of 2003.  Before that I spent four years serving in the United States Navy.  While in the Navy I received several citations for alcohol related incidents.  I came very close to going to jail, and to receiving a dishonorable discharge from the Navy.  I also came very close to committing suicide during this period.  Yet God kept me alive.  Two years after I almost killed myself and almost spent time in jail, I committed my life fully to Christ.  I have had a very exciting life since then.

In 2005 I spent two months in Papua New Guinea as a missionary journalist.  The highlights of this time were two Bible Dedication Ceremonies I attended.  In 2006 I graduated from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire with a writing degree.  In 1994 I had failed out of college because I didn’t attend classes.  Twelve years later I redeemed myself.  In August 2006, I went to South Africa as a missionary.  I spent a year there doing a variety of work.  I helped rebuild a church in Mozambique.  A hurricane had destroyed the previous church.  I fed homeless people.  I did a variety of practical work.  I mentored street children.  And I took care of orphaned children.  God showed me why He created me as I took care of these children.  I came to realize that what I love to do, what I need to do, is help disadvantaged children have a better life

Now God is calling me to help children in Cameroon through Shaping Destiny.  I cannot imagine a better calling, or a better career, than being with these children, helping them to realize their full potential, and assisting them to have a greater relationship with God.

Nathan resides in Cameroon, where he serves as Field Operations Director and missionary for Shaping Destiny.
